Concerned that the spirit of the commission has become muddled over the last 20 years and failing to educate and advocate for the most vulnerable, we commissioned a report from PolicyWise for Children & Families to examine the history and current status of Alberta’s Human Rights Commission.

In this report, you will find an in-depth understanding of the origins behind Alberta’s Human Rights Commission, how it compares to other bodies in different jurisdictions, and how it has become a source of grievance than hope and advocacy for disenfranchised Albertans. It further includes calls to action surrounding how to rehabilitate the programs and services of the AHRC.

We hope that readers of the report will come to understand what we have long hypothesized and will join us in the task of advocating for greater transparency and independence from the Alberta Government, and to return to its core principles of education and advocacy.
